Why are coworking spaces so popular?

Hopefully by now you’ve heard the term ‘coworking’ and it’s highly likely that this great opportunity has opened up in a town near you. But why exactly are coworking spaces becoming such a popular way to work?

Here’s our top three reasons:

FLEXIBILITY:
People or organisations using a coworking space or flexible hire office like the fact that there is no ongoing commitment past the terms negotiated, which are often from week to week, or even month to month.
With coworking, there are generally no overheads and the arrangement is walk-in-walk out, so you don’t have to worry about paying your utilities, cleaning or tackling Telstra!
This flexibility can particularly suit start-up businesses or businesses who are looking to extend their services to new areas as if offers a low-cost, low-risk way of ‘testing the waters’ of a business idea or change.

TRENDS:
There are trends towards the increasing of freelancing, consulting and working remotely rather than being employed by one company and being required to be in a certain location at all times. Some people like to work from home, but others also find that this can be quite ineffective with the distractions that exist.
The Millennial age-group are particularly interested in coworking and are attracted to a work environment that is dynamic and supportive. They are wanting o work independently but also have the opportunity for mentoring and interactions with others.

COMMUNITY:
A coworking space becomes it’s own little community and the coworkers develop a culture that suits their needs. Isolation is reduced and collaboration is encouraged and fostered - networks can form and coworkers can use each other’s strengths and businesses to improve their own offerings.

At CohunaCo we are catering for, and building on, all of these important aspects of coworking.
Particularly, in the current economic climate of our local community, we believe that there is an opportunity for entrepreneurs and existing businesses to grow and adapt by emerging, exploring and engaging their ideas about diversifying to allow us to embrace the changes ahead.
